Hi friends,
Happy Monday!
I’m proud of us for making it through last week and starting this week fresh.
I don’t know about y’all, but last week definitely took a toll. I’m still thinking about the long-term effects that consuming so much trauma has on all of us. I’m wondering how long we’re going to be processing this past year. I’m wondering if some of us have even begun to process at all. This piece on grieving and emerging from the pandemic anew made me feel like I wasn’t alone in that.
Also, I started a new job recently as a part-time community organizer for this amazing organization in my neighborhood. As part of our orientation, we read one of my favorite short stories together! I’m offering it, and its predecessor, to all of you. I hope both stories move you in the way they move me every time I sit with them.
The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas x Ursula Le Guin
The Ones Who Stay and Fight x N.K. Jemisin
I’ll be back with more readings in May, folks! So take your time with these, and feel free to revisit old posts, too.
A parting gift
“…stillness can appear to be passivity or dumbfoundedness. But sometimes it is prayer. Sometimes it is meditation. Sometimes it is art.” — Toni Morrison
Wishing you all an easeful, kind, and generative rest of the month.
